Shaz and her husband relocated to Milton Keynes from Sri Lanka in order to be closer to family. Currently, she is employed at The Open University in Milton Keynes.
She is extremely passionate about education. From having to fight for her own education as a child to obtaining her Master's degree and a PGDip in Development Management later in life, she is a firm believer that education can change people's lives and have a positive impact on their lives while also allowing them to live independently.
Shaz has worked in Sri Lanka, advocating for girls' education and providing links to skill development, allowing them to become economically independent, and has witnessed first-hand the results of education and skill building and how it can change one’s life for the better.
Her love for assisting communities and young people led her to run for councillor in Milton Keynes, where she is now the elected representative for Tattenhoe ward. She is also a volunteer vaccinator with St. Johns Ambulance, an Appropriate Adult with the Young Offenders' Team, and she assists with a variety of other volunteer roles in Milton Keynes.
Shaz serves on the council's Strategic Placemaking Scrutiny Committee, Corporate Parenting Panel, and Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee in the Milton Keynes Council.
