Leader of the Conservative group in Milton Keynes, Cllr Alex Walker, has pledged to change the way politics is done in Milton Keynes if his party wins on Thursday.
Cllr Walker, who could become the youngest ever Leader of Milton Keynes Council, has made the pledge following what he describes as a growing “nasty and intimidating atmosphere that has been allowed to occur in public debate."
Cllr Alex Walker said:
“We have run a campaign based on addressing the factual failings of the Council and also delivering a positive message of change and how we will deal with the big challenges MK faces on issues such as the state of the roads and homelessness.
“But it has become clear that a nasty and intimidating atmosphere that has been allowed to occur in public debate leaving the majority of residents feeling like they can't air their views or be part of discussions.
“We need to move to a position where we debate policy not people. If I become Leader on Thursday I will make sure all areas of society are part of the decision making process in Milton Keynes. We always say that MK works best when it works together, that just hasn’t happened in recent years.
“I will look at holding more ‘town hall’ style meetings throughout the year and will visit every ward in the first six months to allow people to have a real say and input.
“I will change the Council and the way we do politics in MK.”
Alex has come under attack himself on a number occasions throughout the campaign including a death threat.
