Conservatives launch manifesto to "GET MK BACK ON TRACK"

Milton Keynes Conservatives have launched their manifesto for the upcoming local elections promising to ‘Get MK Back on Track’, setting out not only the Conservatives’ ambitious approach to bouncing back the local economy and protecting jobs, but focusing on fixing more potholes and reducing fly-tipping and litter.

The Conservatives are promising to quadruple the pothole repair budget to fix 7,000 additional potholes, protect MK’s green spaces from reckless expansion and scrap Labour’s booking-only system at MK’s tips.

They’re promising a business-boosting package that includes free parking at CMK Shopping Centre and a ‘High Street Support Fund’ to support struggling high streets and local centres and a new economy recovery plan in partnership with local business leaders.

With government support for MK standing at nearly £200 million since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Conservatives want to ensure that businesses can get access to much needed funds more quickly given the Labour-led Council’s slow release of business support funding.

The Conservatives say that thanks to the UK’s world-leading vaccination programme, there is now light at the end of the tunnel and MK is on the road but needs new leadership to get the city back on track.

The manifesto focuses on health and the COVID-19 pandemic, promising to tackle health inequalities in vaccination uptake, invest more in children’s mental health and support MK University Hospital.

The manifesto also sets out the Conservatives’ plans to keep MK safe, pledging to deliver mobile-CCTV units for every ward, reduce knife crime, create a pet theft task force and fix broken streetlights and underpasses so that residents feel better protected.

Cllr Alex Walker, Leader of the Conservative Group, said:

“Getting MK Back on Track is our clear message at this election. We’ve had a challenging year with the COVID pandemic and now thanks to our world-leading vaccination programme, we can start to look forward to life with freedom again.

“Our manifesto is a forward-thinking, positive and ambitious plan for Milton Keynes that stands to support local business, protect jobs, keep our streets safe and get our city back on track.

“We know that residents have had enough of this Labour-led Council and their Lib Dem partners.

“They know that with fly-tipping on the rise, an increase in litter and potholes blighting our roads, that a 7th consecutive council tax increase is not value for money.

“We’re proud to present a plan that will deliver a brighter future for MK and value for money.”
